Proposed tax plan falls short in votes

A fiscal court meeting intended to allow the court to address paying bills developed into a 40-minute conversation about the budget and a failed attempt to begin a process for new tax revenue.

Magistrate Chris Reeder started the conversation during other business when he asked Jailer Jamie Richard about staffing issues at the jail. Richard said his situation has not improved and Bridget Compton, deputy judge executive who serves as fiscal court secretary, said staffing is an issue for all departments, not just the jail.
